Ask about the item in front of you

Request the stone identity, dimensions and report or assessment where supplied. Ask the jeweler to match the documentation to the actual stone and explain any terminology you do not understand. Then look at the setting from the side and underside.

Ask how the stone is held, how exposed corners are handled, what inspections are recommended and whether the exact band can be resized. A meaningful answer may depend on the stone and construction; leave room for the jeweler to explain that.

Get the complete purchase information

Ask for an itemized total in a named currency, including the center, setting and applicable extras. Confirm what must be paid now, what happens if the order changes, and which return or resizing terms apply to a customized or engraved item.

For a deadline, ask about the exact size and configuration, not just a general collection lead time. Clarify who performs any sizing and where a repair would be handled later.

Take a short record home

After the appointment, record one thing you enjoyed and one question that remains. Keep those observations separate from the quoted specifications. You can ask for clarification before buying; the checklist does not require an immediate decision.
